4 for Gregory as Eagles clip Beavers

BLIND RIVER, Ont. – The Soo Eagles got four goals from Reed Gregory and as many assists from Zack Parrot to help lead them to a 9-5 victory over the Blind River Beavers Wednesday night in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at the Blind River Community Centre.

Gregory got his first of the contest, shorthanded, six and a half minutes in to put the visitors out in front.

Blind River got that back with 43 seconds remaining in the opening stanza as Joseph Eben notched his seventh of the season.

The Beavers then went up 2-1 on the first shift of the middle stanza as Cole Murray connected 24 seconds in.

After Sault Ste. Marie’s Landon Hubbard tied it at 2:11, Blind River retook the lead moments later courtesy of a Liam Sweeney effort.

Not to be outdone, the Eagles countered by scoring three times in less than a nine-minute span on a man down tally from Evan Ketner, a power play marker off the stick of Nate Harris and one at even strength from Gregory to grab a 5-3 lead.

The home side pulled closer at 19:32 of the second when Ted Davis tapped in his fifth of the campaign.

In the third, the Eagles broke it open with two more goals from Gregory and singles provided by Bradley Hofelich and Jake Saxton to go up by five before Blind River’s Max Khull rounded out the scoring with 4:33 to go.

Sam Rappaport added two assists for the Soo in the triumph while Tyler Somers did likewise for the Beavers.

Jack Hickey made 28 saves to record the win for the Eagles with Matt Blattenberger being peppered with 63 shots in defeat for Blind River.
