Blind River’s Brandon Bazinet named NOJHL’s best defensive forward

SUDBURY — The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Thursday that Brandon Bazinet of the Blind River Beavers has been named the 2012-13 recipient of the Mitch Tetreault Memorial Trophy, which is awarded annually to the NOJHL’s top defensive forward.

Not only was the 17-year-old Val Caron, Ont., product pivotal in helping shutdown opposing shooters throughout this, his rookie campaign in the NOJHL, he was also creative doing so through his offensive efforts.

The five-foot-nine-inch, 160-pound forward competed in 46 of his team’s 48 regular season contests averaging nearly a point-per-game with 44 on 13 goals and 31 assists.

Bazinet becomes the third skater from Blind River to earn the award since it was first presented back in 2002-03.

Former Beavers’ forwards Gerritt Weller in 2008-09 and Jeremy Hilliard in 2006-07 were the other pair from Blind River to receive the accolades.
