Cochrane doubles up Iroquois Falls in home opener

COCHRANE, Ont. – The Cochrane Crunch got goals from four different skater to help them double up the visiting Iroquois Falls Eskis 4-2 Friday evening in their Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League season and home opener at the Tim Horton Event Centre.

Brandon McReynolds’ first NOJHL marker opened the offensive proceedings as he put the home side on the board seven and a half minutes into the contest.

Iroquois Falls came back with the equalizer at 14:17 when Riley Wagner collected his first of the campaign.

An early man advantage opportunity in the middle stanza allowed the Crunch to go back on top as Braeden Cross also notched his initial league marker 123 seconds into the frame.

Konnor Dechaine continued the goal No. 1 parade on the night midway through the game as he buried the eventual game-winner past Eskis starter Trevor Hawkes.

The power play brought the guests to within two shortly after the third period began as Shadow Reuben converted while his side was up a man.

However Nicolas Flanders added some insurance for Cochrane with 8:21 to go to round out the night’s scoring.

Leighton Williams made 24 saves to record the win for the Crunch while Hawkes faced 46 shots in defeat for Iroquois Falls.

The same two teams meet again Saturday in the Eskis home opener at Jus Jordan Arena. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
