Cochrane skates to 3-1 road win at Iroquois Falls

IROQUOIS FALLS – A Jeremy McNeil goal with 5:31 remaining proved to be the game-winner as the Cochrane Crunch defeated the Iroquois Falls Eskis 3-1 Thursday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League preseason action at Jus Jordan Arena.

The home side were quick to strike in this one getting the opening tally 1:47 into the contest as Dillon Bruce finished off the work of Zach Nadeau and Kezmin Madden.

Cochrane pulled even in the latter stages of the first on a Hunter Atchison marker at 16:14.

The score stayed that way until well into the final frame when McNeil notched the eventual difference maker.

Iroquois Falls pulled netminder Dan Davies late in regulation in an effort to force overtime, but Seamus Maguire put one into the open net with 23 seconds to go to finish off the scoring.

Kurtis David was solid in the Crunch net making 40 saves as they were playing their fourth game in five days and gutted out the victory in front of a large crowd at Jus Jordan.

Joe Sheppard started for the Eskis and played half the game making 26 stops while Davies handled 18 of 19 in relief in suffering the loss.

Three more NOJHL preseason contests are on the slate Friday in a trio of 7:30 p.m. starts.

The Rayside-Balfour Canadians head to Timmins to take of the Rock at McIntyre Arena, the Eskis will pay a visit to the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex to meet the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners while the Elliot Lake Wildcats host the Espanola Wildcats as they kick off a home-and-home at Centennial Arena.
