Dubchak tallies twice to lead Trappers over Eskimos

NORTH BAY – Brennen Dubchak tallied twice and Cole Klippenstein dished out three assists to help lead the North Bay Trappers to a 4-1 victory over the Abitibi Eskimos Sunday afternoon in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at Memorial Gardens.

Following a scoreless opening stanza, Devan Turcotte put the Trappers on the board 33 seconds into the middle session as he converted during a man advantage opportunity.

A minute and 16 seconds later Dubchak buried the eventual game-winner to put North Bay up a pair.

Peter Poulin-Roy cut into the deficit before the session was out making it a 2-1 game after 40 minutes.

Trevor Hunt netted a power play effort with 8:34 to go in the final frame to give the home side some insurance while Dubchak iced it in the late stages to round out the day’s scoring.

Greg Dodds made 41 saves to register his league-leading 19th win of the campaign as the Trappers improved to 23-6-3-3 overall.

Jackson Winkler faced 44 shots in a losing cause for the Eskimos who fell to 12-19-0-2 on the campaign.

NOJHL action resumes Wednesday on two fronts as Kirkland Lake visits Sudbury while Elliot Lake entertains Sault Ste. Marie.

Both contests get underway at 7:30 p.m.
