Eagles rally to earn 4-4 tie with Wildcats

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Soo Eagles picked up a pair of late third period tallies to force overtime before eventually settling for a 4-4 tie with the Elliot Lake Wildcats Saturday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at Pullar Stadium.

Neither side would get on the board in a scoreless opening 20 minutes.

The Eagles came out strong to begin the second stanza however to grab a 2-0 lead on goals from Brendan Schultz and Nate Harris.

Battling back, Elliot Lake struck for three markers of their own before the session was complete compliments of Taylor Woolcott, Curtis Rawn and Evan Spencer’s first in the league.

Rawn added another for the Wildcats to put them up 4-2 six and a half minutes into the third.

William Casey’s 13th of the season brought Sault Ste. Marie closer with 6:35 remaining and Jake Saxton’s 19th forced OT at 18:41.

Neither side would convert in each of the two five-minute extra periods however as each team left the ice with one point apiece to their credit.

Bradley Hofelich dished out two assists for the Soo as did the Wildcats William Bucsis.

The Eagles outshot the Wildcats 53-42 on the night with Justin Richer making 49 saves for Elliot Lake and Justyn Gillis handling 38 for the Soo.
