Elliot Lake sinks Blind River

BLIND RIVER, Ont. – The Elliot Lake Wildcats rode the strength of three power play goals to help them skate to a 5-1 victory over the Blind River Beavers Thursday night in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League preseason action at the Blind River Community Centre.

It was all Elliot Lake in the opening 20 minutes as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one period of play.

Josh Armstrong kicked off the scoring for the Wildcats at 10:53 of the frame.

Up a man later in the session, Taylor Woolcott notched the eventual game-winner, before Evan Spencer added one at even strength with 38 seconds left in the stanza.

The visitors upped the lead to 4-0 after 40 minutes with Taylor Bucsis connecting on the power play at 13:15 of the second period.

A third man advantage effort early in the third put Elliot Lake up by five as Clark Allair finished one off via special teams.

Blind River would dash Allan Menary’s shutout bid with 9:54 to go compliments of Caleb Serre to round out the night’s scoring.

Bucsis also chipped in with two assists to complete a three-point night for the Wildcats.

Shots on goal in the contest favoured Elliot Lake by a 32-17 count with Menary picking up the win and Tyler Shugrue suffering the loss.

The two teams will meet again Friday in a 7:30 p.m. start at Centennial Arena.
