Gold Miners coach/GM Lafleur steps down to take similar role with Hearst franchise

KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – The Kirkland Lake Gold Miners of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Friday that head coach & general manager Marc Lafleur has resigned his position with the Gold Miners to accept similar responsibilities with the Hearst Lumberjacks.

Lafleur joined the Gold Miners five seasons ago from the Rouyn Noranda Huskies of the QMJHL and in those five years built a winner the town was proud of.

In 2014, the Gold Miners were crowned NOJHL champions and the Dudley-Hewitt Cup Central Canadian Jr. A Championship.

The following season the club claimed NOJHL Eastern Conference title, finished league runner-up to the Soo Thunderbirds and hosted the Dudley-Hewitt Cup.

This past season the team lost out to eventual champion Powassan Voodoos in the Eastern Division semifinals.

The Gold Miners Hockey Club sincerely thank Marc for his contribution to the organization over the last five years and wish him success with his hometown Hearst Lumberjacks with this opportunity also allowing Marc to be closer to his family, in Hearst.

The search for a new coach & GM to take the reins of the Gold Miners begins immediately.
