Gold Miners’ Menary stops 27 in shutout of Eskis

IROQUOIS FALLS, Ont. – Allan Menary turned aside all 27 shots he faced to post the shutout as the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners went on to blank the Iroquois Falls Eskis 7-0 Saturday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest at Jus Jordan Arena.

Heading into the second stanza, Kirkland Lake got two more to go up by four on efforts supplied by Michael Hans and Ashton Amaya, who scored his on the power play.

Three more tallies in the third by the Gold Miners put the game away as Liam Watson, Max Cavallini and Kevin Ford, during a man advantage, rounded out the night’s scoring.

Amaya and Alex Storjohann dished out two assists each in the win.

The shutout was Menary’s first as a member of Kirkland Lake and third in his NOJHL career.

Trevor Hawkes started for Iroquois Falls and suffered the loss allowing four against on 34 shots.

Artem Bortovskiy meanwhile gave up three on 19 attempts in almost 29 minutes of relief.
