Gold Miners use balanced attack to defeat Bobcats

KIRKLAND LAKE – The Kirkland Lake Gold Miners got goals from five different skaters en route to a 5-2 victory over the visiting Elliot Lake Bobcats Friday evening in the lone Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest of the night.

John Folmer staked the Bobcats to the lead as his struck with just six seconds to play on the opening stanza.

Kirkland Lake responded with two tallies in the middle stanza to go 2-1 after 40 minutes with Tanner Lafrance and Alex Perrault notching markers four minutes and 39 seconds apart for the home side.

Conner McNally’s team-leading 18th goal of the season early in the third period proved to be the game-winner as he beat Elliot Lake netminder Cory Simic at 3:16.

Jean-Michel Naud and Joe Ftoma added insurance efforts for the Miners before Follmet added his second of the evening for Elliot Lake to round out the scoring.

Jean-Francois Sylvestre aided the offensive cause for the Gold Miners by dishing out three assists in the game.

Chris Komma finished up facing 16 shots to register the win helping his side improve to 19-15-2-1 on the campaign.

Simic made 30 saves in a losing cause for the Bobcats who fell to 8-23-0-2 overall.
