Kirkland Lake skates to 7th consecutive win with triumph over Timmins

KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – Highlighted by the three-goal, one-assist performance from Gunnar Wegleitner the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners skated to their seventh Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League victory in a row Thursday as they defeated the visiting Timmins Rock 4-1 at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.

After a scoreless opening 20 minutes, Wegleitner staked the Gold Miners to the lead with his first of the night midway through the middle stanza.

Down a man, Timmins tied it at 1-1 at 12:42 when Alexandre Brisson struck shorthanded for the Rock.

How Kirkland Lake came right back, while still on the power play, with Ashton Amaya supplying the eventual game-winner just 10 seconds later.

Wegleitner then added his second of the session at 14:23 as the home side carried a 3-1 cushion into the final frame.

In the third Wegleitner finished off his hat trick with 75 seconds remaining to round out the scoring.

Alex Storjohann dished out three assists to aid the Gold Miners cause while Amaya had a pair of helpers to go with his tally.

Ridge Gerads made 31 saves on the night to record the victory for Kirkland Lake while Al Rogers faced 32 shots in defeat for the Timmins.
