Maguire’s OT winner lifts Crunch over Wildcats

COCHRANE, Ont. – Seamus Maguire’s second goal of the night, coming 2:13 into overtime, lifted the Cochrane Crunch to a dramatic 6-5 triumph over the visiting Elliot Lake Wildcats Friday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League affair at the Tim Horton Event Centre.

Cochrane came out quick in this contest taking a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes on markers by Alex Goulet and John Stevenson.

Both sides would then connect twice in the second period with Alec MacKenzie and Shane Woolsey scoring for Elliot Lake while Maguire and Stevenson countered for the Crunch.

After Woolsey brought the Wildcats to within one at 2:48 of the third, Hunter Atchison got that back for Cochrane a minute and a half later.

Undeterred, Elliot Lake battled back to force extra time thanks to an even strength effort from Spencer MacLean at 6:50 followed by one on the power play with 5:18 to go off the stick of Cole Hepler.

In the end however, it was the home side that would pick up the extra point on this night thanks to Maguire’s OT heroics.

Tyler Minoletti and Dustin Cordeiro each helped set-up two Crunch goals on the night.

Artur Terhiyev dished out three assists for the Wildcats with Woolsey adding a pair of helpers of his own.

Brett Young was the winning netminder for Cochrane making 36 stops along the way.

Aaron MacKay saw 39 shots fired his way in the Wildcats net helping his team earn a point in the standings.
