GALLERY: Masternak stops 34 as Rock shutout Gold Miners

TIMMINS, Ont. – Tyler Masternak turned aside all 34 shots he faced to register his second Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League shutout Wednesday evening as the Timmins Rock blanked the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners 1-0 in a low-scoring match-up in front of nearly 700 fans at McIntyre Arena.

Timmins picked up what would be the only goal of the contest as Jace Soroko notched his sixth of the campaign at 14:46 of the first period with assists going to Linden Spencer and Will Caston.

It was goaltenders battle from there with Masternak and his Kirkland Lake counterpart Cade McEwen stopping every remaining attempt fired their way.

McEwen was also solid on the night as he made 39 saves while allowing just the one against in suffering the narrow defeat.

With the result the Rock improved to 16-23-2-2 of the season while the Gold Miners slipped to 19-16-6-4 in this NOJHL East Division affair.
