Naud tallies twice to lead Gold Miners over Bobcats

ELLIOT LAKE – Jean-Michel Naud tallied twice to help lift the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners to a 4-1 victory over the hometown Elliot Lake Bobcats in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action Friday evening at Centennial Arena.

Neither side was able to find the back of the net in scoreless opening period with Bobcats goaltender Cory Simic and Gold Miners netminder Chris Komma being spotless after 20 minutes.

After Naud opened the scoring 8:07 into the middle frame, Henry Berger levelled the contest with a power play marker five minutes later.

Naud’s second of the stanza put the visitors back on top with the eventual game-winner shortly after Berger’s equalizer.

Francis Deforges added some early third period insurance for the Miners while Royce King iced it with a an empty-net effort in the late going to wrap up the night’s scoring.

Komma made 21 saves to pick up the win for Kirkland Lake who improved to 9-5-0-1 on the campaign.

Simic had 35 stops in a losing cause for Elliot Lake as they fell to 3-11 on the year.
