NOJHL announces  Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that forwards Logan Fredericks of the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners, Hunter Atchison of the Cochrane Crunch and Brett Jeffries of the Soo Thunderbirds  have been named the Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the week, for the period ending Jan. 31.

LOGAN FREDERICKS, (F) KIRKLAND LAKE GOLD MINERS – In three road games over the weekend the 20-year-old Millstone Township, N.J. native had goals and points in each of them helping the Gold Miners secure four out of six points in the league standings.

Fredericks started off by notching a hat trick, including the game-winner, and added an assist as Kirkland Lake skated to a victory over the Soo Eagles Friday.

One night later he tallied both of his club’s markers in a setback against the top team in the NOJHL, the Soo Thunderbirds.

Sunday afternoon Fredericks notched his 30th goal of the season and set-up another as the Gold Miners skated to a triumph at Blind River.

Currently riding an eight-game point streak, Fredericks has also scored in five consecutive contests and his 30 tallies is the fourth most in the league so far this season.

HUNTER ATCHISON, (F) COCHRANE CRUNCH – The NOJHL’s leading point producer continued his clutch play on the ice helping Cochrane go unbeaten in four games.

In league play the 19-year-old from Victoria, B.C., notched the game-winner in an overtime victory over Iroquois Falls Friday, which was his NOJHL-best 40th goal of the season.

Saturday Atchison tacked on tally No. 41 and drew an assist as Cochrane finished off a home-and-home sweep of the Eskis.

Meanwhile earlier in the week, he was the difference maker in both contests the Crunch played in the SIJHL Showcase in Minnesota.

Atchison had the game-winner on a breakaway in overtime vs. the Minnesota Iron Rangers and followed that up by supplying the difference maker as Cochrane blanked the top team in the SIJHL, the Fort Frances Lakers.

Overall he leads all NOJHL skaters in scoring with 83 points in 43 outings.

BRETT JEFFRIES, (F) SOO THUNDERBIRDS – Continuing his strong defensive play for No. 1 nationally-ranked Sault Ste. Marie, Jeffries efforts on both ends of the ice helped them maintain their place among the elite in both the Canadian Junior Hockey League and the overall NOJHL standings.

The Thunderbirds captain doled out two assists, including setting up the game-winning goal, as his side put an end to a nine-game winning streak of Kirkland Lake on Saturday night.

One of the premier defensive forwards in the league, the 20-year-old Cochenour, Ont., product has also supplied 11 goals, including two shorthanded, and 24 assists for 35 points in 40 games.

Jeffries has already surpassed his assist and point totals and has matched his tally total set last season.
