NOJHL names its Eastlink 3 Stars of the week

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that forwards Jordan Picard and Gregory Trudeau-Paquet of the French River Rapids as well as Zach Bannister of the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending Sept. 24.

JORDAN PICARD, (F) FRENCH RIVER RAPIDS – The 20-year-old from Timmins was impressive for the upstart Rapids last week amassing seven points in a pair of French River victories.

Picard began by picking up three assists in a double overtime triumph over Kirkland Lake on Friday.

One night later he tallied twice, which included the game-winner and set-up two more markers as the Rapids moved into first overall in the NOJHL standings in a win over Elliot Lake.

Through seven contests, Picard sits tied for second in league scoring with 11 points on three goals and eight helpers.

ZACH BANNISTER, (F) KIRKLAND LAKE GOLD MINERS – Bannister certainly did his part for the Gold Miners during the time frame as he helped his club mine three points in two outings.

The 18-year-old, who hails from Grande Prairie, Alta., racked up six points in those contests for his initial offensive contributions with Kirkland Lake.

In the double OT setback Friday at French River, Bannister notched a pair of markers and chipped in with a couple assists along the way.

Heading into a Sunday matinee vs. Rayside-Balfour, he added another goal and supplied a helper as the Gold Miners earned a home ice win at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.

GREGORY TRUDEAU-PAQUET, (F) FRENCH RIVER RAPIDS – The red-hot Trudeau-Paquest continued his torrid pace to begin the season by picking up seven more points and taking the NOJHL scoring lead.

The 18-year-old from Sudbury began with his first league hat trick and finished up with a career-high five points as the Rapids pulled out the decision late in the second OT Friday.

He then notched another marker and supplied an assist as French River knocked off the Wildcats Saturday.

Currently with goals in three straight and points in five in succession, Trudeau-Paquet leads the NOJHL in offensive numbers with 15 in seven games.
