NOJHL names its initial Eastlink 3 Stars for 2017
Gold Miners’ Fyfe; Eskis’ Hawkes; Rapids’ Vader earn weekly accolades

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Kirkland Lake Gold Miners forward Tyler Fyfe along with goaltenders Trevor Hawkes of the Iroquois Falls Eskis and Korlan Vader of the French River Rapids   have been named its initial Eastlink TV 3 Stars for 2017.

TYLER FYFE, (F) KIRKLAND LAKE GOLD MINERS – Hailing from Cloverdale, B.C., Fyfe totalled five points last week helping Kirkland Lake secure a win and a double overtime tie in two outings.

The 19-year-old began by registering a single-game high three points Friday evening as he tallied twice, including the tying goal late in regulation, and added an assist in an overtime win over Timmins.

Sunday afternoon he scored once more to reach the 15-goal plateau on the season and set-up another as the Gold Miners battled to an OT draw vs. league-leading Powassan.

Fyfe is presently averaging just over a point-per-game for his club while sitting second on the Kirkland Lake roster in offensive production with 41 points, which includes 26 helpers, in 39 games played.

TREVOR HAWKES, (G) IROQUOIS FALLS ESKIS – In two starts over the weekend Hawkes made a combined 70 saves in a pair of stellar efforts for Iroquois Falls.

The 19-year-old netminder from Poplar Grove, Ill., did all he could Saturday to keep his club in it, allowing just two goals against on 38 shots in a close loss against league-leading Powassan.

Back in goal for the Eskis Sunday, Hawkes turned aside 34 of the 36 attempts fired his way in a triumph over French River at Jus Jordan Arena.

The Iroquois Falls stopper has made the second-most saves in the league so far this season at 767.

KORLAN VADER, (G) FRENCH RIVER RAPIDS – The 19-year-old native of Sherwood Park, Alta., once again gave all he could between the pipes for French River last week.

Vader began with a solid 43-save effort in a narrow 2-1 setback on the road Saturday against a high-scoring Cochrane club that ranks second in the NOJHL in goals scored with 170.

Sunday at Iroquois Falls, he entered the contest and earned a no decision in 40 minutes of work allowing just two against while making 28 stops in defeat to the Eskis.

His .947 save percentage for the week also helped move him into the Top 10 among all goaltenders in the league in that category.

Vader has had eight games so far this season in which he’s made 40 or more saves, including a trio of 50-plus stop performances for the Rapids.
