NOJHL remembers Sam Oden

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League lost one of their own during the off-season with the untimely and unfortunate passing of defenceman Sam Oden, after a tragic accident claimed the 19-year-old’s life last month in his home state of Minnesota.

The NOJHL, its member clubs, players and fans were shocked and deeply saddened by the news of Sam Oden’s passing.

Oden spent the 2015-16 campaign playing defence for both the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners and Rayside-Balfour Canadians after five years with the prestigious Shattuck-St. Mary’s Prep School program in Faribault, Minn.

As a tribute to the life and memory of Sam, the NOJHL will be holding a moments silence at each of the 12 member clubs home opening games this season in his honour.

The NOJHL’s regular season begins Friday on five fronts.

Action tomorrow night has Espanola hosting Blind River, Elliot Lake entertaining Powassan, Kirkland Lake at home to French River, the Soo Eagles welcome the Rayside-Balfour Canadians to Pullar Stadium and Cochrane takes on Iroquois Falls with all five match-ups having a 7:30 p.m. start time.
