NOJHL Team-By-Team Previews: Sudbury Nickel Barons
SUDBURY –- Leading up to the start of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League’s regular season, which gets underway this evening, team-by-team previews are being presented. This team feature is on the Sudbury Nickel Barons.

OUTLOOK: Gone are the Sudbury Cubs and replacing them in the NOJHL are the Sudbury Nickel Barons. The club has new ownership while veteran hockey man Oscar Clouthier serves as general manager of the newly minted club. Stepping behind the bench as head coach is Dave Clancy. He too is no stranger to the Sudbury hockey scene possessing two decades of coaching experience including guiding the then Sudbury Jr. Wolves to a NOJHL championship back in 2007. The team will have plenty of offensive production to replace including the loss of league leading scorer and NOJHL most valuable player Jordan Carroll. Fellow 100-plus-point man Jamie Haines has also wrapped up his junior career.
RETURNEES (Players from the Sudbury Cubs)
ALEX LAINO: Local goaltender saw action in 26 games last season with the Cubs registering a goals-against average of 4.30 along with a .898 save percentage.
DARCY HAINES: The highest scoring returning player from the Cubs organization is Haines, who finished sixth on the squad. He averaged over a point-per-game with 48 in 46 games on 22 goals and 26 assists.
BRETT DUSICK: The 19-year-old blueliner should help solidify the defensive corps of the club.
NEWCOMERS
MICHAEL MUZYKA: The former Copper Cliff Redmen netminder was stellar in the midget ranks last season posting six shutouts along with an impressive 0.89 goals-against average. He is a sixth round OHL draft choice of the Sudbury Wolves.
KHADYN BUTTERFLY: The defenceman joins the club from the local Nickel Capital Wolves midget side. Had 15 points on seven tallies and eight helpers for the TELUS Cup Central Region champs.
SCOTT SIRKKA: Another member of that Nickel Capital squad was D-man Sirkka. He had a goal and dished out 13 assists as he makes the jump to junior hockey and the NOJHL.
