Patterson paces Canadians past Rapids

CHELMSFORD, Ont. – Kyle Patterson had three goals while Brody Brunet tallied twice and set-up two others as the Rayside-Balfour Canadians defeated the French River Rapids 10-3 Saturday evening in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League at Chelmsford Arena.

Each side would find the back of the net in the opening stanza with Patterson getting the Canadians on the board at 5:31 while Bret McInall countered for French River four minutes later.

A strong second period allowed Rayside-Balfour to score four times and take control of the contest on markers supplied by Patterson, Tristan Samm and a pair by Brunet.

The Rapids came out quickly in the final frame to get back into it as Brennan Kelly scored on the power play at 2:05 with Justin Bernthal adding another 56 seconds later to make it a 5-3 game.

The Canadians put the game away in the final half of the frame however tacking on five goals.

Bradley Chenier, Danny Lepage, Matt Neault, Cayse Ton and Patterson finishing off his hat trick were the Rayside-Balfour marksmen in the session.

Kevin Labelle made 21 saves to pick-up the win.

Chad Mosley started and played two periods for French River making 28 saves in suffering the loss.

Zach Hill had a dozen stops in relief for the Rapids.
