Rayside-Balfour rolls along with 5th straight win

CHELMSFORD, Ont. – Otis Goldman scored three times in the second period to help the Rayside-Balfour Canadians win their fifth straight game and improve to 9-1 in their past 10 outings as they defeated the Espanola Express 6-1 Sunday night in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at Chelmsford Arena.

The Canadians kicked off the evening’s scoring 2:14 into the contest with Makenzie MacMillan’s fourth of the campaign for the lone marker of the first.

Rayside-Balfour added to their lead 74 seconds into the middle stanza as Goldman collected his first of the contest while also extending a consecutive game point streak to five in the process with the eventual game-winner.

Goldman then tacked on two more after that in the period to complete a natural hat trick as he raised his tally total to 10 in as many games since joining the team.

Aaron Roschinsky got one back for Espanola at 18:19 of the middle stanza to make it a 4-1 count after 40 minutes.

Rayside-Balfour then put the contest away in the third getting a goal from Connor Brown at 2:21 and a man advantage effort courtesy of Brett Whitehead midway through the session to round out the night’s scoring.

Ryan Erickson, Matthew Neault and Cory Fransen added two assists apiece for the Canadians in the triumph.

Makenzie Savard faced 32 shots in picking up the win for Rayside-Balfour.

Former Canadians netminder Kevin Labelle saw 49 shots fired his way in defeat against this former club.
