Rayside-Balfour romps over Timmins

TIMMINS – The Rayside-Balfour Canadians return to the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League was an impressive one as they rolled over the Timmins Rock 7-1 in an exhibition encounter Friday at McIntyre Arena.

Makenzie MacMillan got the Canadians on the board 81 seconds after the opening face-off while Danny Lepage made it 2-0 at 12:15 of the first.

Timmins got their lone marker of the night with 8:22 to go in the opening session as Jordan Rendle found the back of the net for the Rock.

Rayside-Balfour took control in the second notching three more to go up 5-1 after 40 minutes on goals by Owen Fransen, Jackson Gunner, on the power play, and Cayse Ton.

Another by Ton in the third as well as a man advantage effort by Yanic Hebert rounded out the night’s scoring.

Hebert, Lepage, MacMillan and Ryan Mooney each dished out two assists to aid the Canadians offensive cause.

Jessie Morin went the distance and picked up the victory for Rayside-Balfour while Logan Ferrington started and suffered the loss while Jack Stockland also saw action in relief for Timmins.

The same two clubs will tangle once again Saturday at they face-off at 7:15 p.m. at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Complex in Greater Sudbury.
