Rendle’s big night helps Rock rally to level series vs. Cochrane

COCHRANE, Ont. – The Timmins Rock rallied from a two-goal deficit and notched three unanswered third period tallies to earn a 4-2 victory over the Cochrane Crunch Saturday in Game 2 of their Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League East Division semifinal at the Tim Horton Event Centre.

Timmins captain Jordan Rendle led the comeback with two goals, including the game-winner, and an assist to level the best-of-seven series at 1-1 heading into Game 3 Wednesday, which will be held at McIntyre Arena in Timmins at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday’s match-up saw a scoreless first that saw each club fire 11 shots on net at netminders Al Rogers of the Rock and Leighton Williams of the Crunch.

Cochrane was quick to get on the board in the second stanza however as Konnar Dechaine connected at the 48-second mark.

NOJHL top defenceman award recipient Connor Lovie then added to the home side’s lead at 5:12 with his first of the postseason.

Timmins started their rally midway through the contest when Rendle struck shorthanded.

On a power play to begin the third, Timmins had a quality chance to tie it only to be denied thanks to a superb glove save by Williams.

However the Rock came right back just after the man advantage had expired as Stewart Parnell fired in a rebound from the right side to knot the affair at 2-2 at 1:14.

Following a face-off in their own zone, the Rock went in front just over five minutes later after breaking out on a two-on-one with Rendle backhanding in a rebound from the top of the crease off a Wayne Mathieu shot for the eventual difference maker.

The visitors then upped their cushion at 8:56 with the final goal of the night as defenceman Jared Hester snapped a shot from the left point that found its way through a crowd and into the back of the net during a power play.

Rogers finished with 32 saves to post the win for Timmins while Williams faced 39 shots in defeat for Cochrane.
