Rock pair pace Timmins over French River

TIMMINS, Ont. – The Timmins Rock got a combined nine points from the duo of Tyler Romain and Wayne Mathieu to help them skate to an 8-3 victory over the French River Rapids Monday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at McIntyre Arena.

In all eight different skaters tallied in the win for Timmins, including Romain and Mathieu, who also dished out four and three assists respectively.

The Rock took control early grabbing a 3-0 lead after one period of play on goals from Jordan Rendle, Brendan Campbell and Nicholas Hway.

After Jamies Watier made it 4-0 three and half minutes into the middle stanza, Christian Gaudreau connected for French River 24 seconds later to register his eighth of the season for the Rapids.

Austin Hickner added another for the visitors at 15:45 before Romain notched No. 23 of the campaign for the home side before the session was complete.

Timmins put the game out of reach in the third scoring three times before the frame was half complete thanks to efforts from Patrick Gazich, Mathieu and Alexandre Brisson.

William Michaud added a late power play marker for the Rapids to round things out offensively.

Bain Cunningham chipped in with an assist for the Rock to extend a consecutive game point streak to seven.

Timmins outshot French River 55-27 on the night with Jeff Veitch picking up the win and Korlan Vader the loss.
