Seguin scores three as North Bay moves into first in NOJHL

NORTH BAY – Tait Seguin tallied three times, including twice shorthanded to help lift the North Bay Trappers to a 6-3 victory over the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners Sunday evening in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at Memorial Gardens.

With the win the Trappers move into sole possession of first place in the NOJHL standings, two points ahead of the second place Soo Thunderbirds. North Bay also holds one game in hand.

Newcomer Beau Orser opened the scoring for North Bay striking on the power play 17:18 into the contest.

Seguin and Trevor Hunt then tallied 59 seconds apart to make it 3-0 for the home side beforeJeremy Picard-Fiset notched a man advantage marker to put the Gold Miners on the board at 7:32.

Seguin then struck shorthanded seven minutes later before Everett Thompson pulled Kirkland Lake back to within two before the middle session was out.

The final frame saw Brennen Dubchak make it 5-2 early before Seguin finished off his hat-trick at 4:29 with his side down a man.

Tanner Lafrance rounded out the scoring for the Gold Miners with Daniel Morin chipping in a pair of assists in defeat for the visitors.

Shots on goal were 41 apiece with Greg Dodds making 38 saves in picking up the win as his team raised their record to 20-3-3-3 on the campaign.

Marc Audet had 35 stops for Kirkland Lake in a losing cause as they fell to 16-14-2-1.

NOJHL action resumes Wednesday as North Bay travel to Sudbury to take on the Nickel Barons in a 7:30 p.m. start at McClelland Arena in Copper Cliff.
