TIMMINS, Ont. – Derek Seguin’s second goal of the game with 68 seconds remaining while his club was shorthanded was the game-winner as the Timmins Rock earned a 3-1 victory over the Hearst Lumberjacks Saturday evening in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at McIntyre Arena.

Hearst did take a 1-0 lead after one period of play thanks to Vasily Goglev’s first NOJHL marker 7:56 into the contest.

Timmins came back with the equalizer to notch the lone offensive effort in the middle frame as Seguin picked up his initial tally of the night.

The score stayed that way until late in regulation when Seguin blocked a shot from a Lumberjacks defender with his team down a man and proceeded to skate in all alone on a breakaway from his own blueline and then snapped the game-winner under the blocker of Hearst netminder Artem Bortovskiy.

Still on the man advantage, the visitors pulled their goalkeeper to try and knot the score, but the Rock got a similar goal 45 seconds later as Alexandre Brisson chipped the puck past a Lumberjacks’ defenceman and raced down the ice and sealed it with an unassisted empty netter to wrap things up.

Eric Jackson made 18 stops to record his first NOJHL win, which was also the initial triumph for Timmins head coach Corey Beer.

Bortovskiy suffered the hard luck loss for Hearst facing 38 shots in defeat.
