Thunderbirds 10th in CJHL preseason rankings

SUDBURY – The Soo Thunderbirds of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League have cracked the top 10 in the Canadian Junior Hockey League’s top 20 preseason rankings.

The T-Birds were tabbed 10th overall in the ratings copiled in conjunction with NHL Central Scouting heading into to the start of the 2013-14 campaign.

Sault Ste. Marie will get their first test in proving their preseason ranking as they take to the ice at 5 p.m. tonight in game 1 of the NOJHL’s Cottage Cup tournament in Elliot Lake against the North Bay Trappers.

The four-team event also features the Blind River Beavers and host Elliot Lake Bobcats taking part with the Cottage Cup running through Sunday.

The pre-season rankings are based upon a variety of factors which includes the league in which the teams belong to, last season’s results in regular season and playoffs, as well as initial recruiting efforts for the upcoming season.
