Thunderbirds still No. 1 in CJHL rankings while 3 other NOJHL clubs recognized

SUDBURY – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League continues to be well situated in the mix in the Canadian Junior Hockey League’s Pointstreak Top 20 weekly rankings.

The latest rankings, which are compiled in conjunction with International Scouting Services, has the Soo Thunderbirds still as the top side in the 131-team CJHL.

Joining the Thunderbirds from the NOJHL in the listings are the Cochrane Crunch, who dropped one notch to ninth overall, despite winning all four games they played last week.

Also slotted in the rankings were the Powassan Voodos, who remain No. 15 nationally, while the 2016 Dudley-Hewitt Cup host Kirkland Lake Gold Miners earned honourable mention status.

Sault Ste. Marie remains in first place in the NOJHL West division as well as in top spot in the overall standings with 73 points on a 36-4-1-0 record.

They also hold three games in hand on second overall Cochrane with the Crunch pacing the NOJHL East while boasting a 33-7-2-2 mark and 70 points.

Powassan and Kirkland Lake have 63 points apiece in the NOJHL East with the Voodoos having gone 29-8-3-2 and the Gold Miners 30-9-2-1.

There was no change in the CJHL rankings among the top five teams this week with the Penticton Vees (BCHL), Portage Terriers (MJHL), Trenton Gold Hawks (OJHL) and Spruce Grove Saints (AJHL) holding down second through fifth respectively.
