Timmins tames Hearst in NOJHL preseason play

TIMMINS, Ont. – The Timmins Rock used a well-balanced attack getting goals from six different skaters Thursday evening to help them defeat the Hearst Lumberjacks 6-2 in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League exhibition contest at McIntyre Arena.

Hearst would open the scoring five and a half minutes into the contest thanks to Bradley Golant.

A Seth Reuben shorthanded marker put Timmins on the board at 13:54 of the frame while Riley Brousseau’s first of the preseason gave the Rock the lead less than two minutes later.

The home side added to their cushion with the lone tally of the middle session as Wayne Mathieu connected on the power play at 9:32.

Timmins then tacked on three more, 3:31 apart, in the third period to break it open as Alex Brisson, A.J. Campbell and Will Caston all found the back of the net in rapid succession.

Shadow Reuben got one back for the Lumberjacks after that to round out the night’s scoring.

Brendan Bishop made 25 saves to record the win for the Rock.

Nicholas Dube started for Hearst and suffered the loss allowing the six against on 22 shots while Artem Bortovskiy handled all eight attempts he saw in nearly 12 minutes of relief.

The two sides will meet again Sunday at 7 p.m. as they finish off a home-and-home at Claude Larose Arena.
