Timmins too much for Rayside-Balfour

TIMMINS, Ont. – Bain Cunningham tallied twice and helped set-up two others in guiding the Timmins Rock to an impressive 7-1 decision over the Rayside-Balfour Canadians Saturday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at McIntyre Arena.

It was the visiting Canadians that got on the board first in the contest as Ian Robbie scored unassisted two and a half minutes in.

Timmins countered however by striking three times before the first period was complete on efforts supplied by Tyler Romain, Cole Gilligan and Alexandre Brisson.

Cunningham then connected twice in the middle frame scoring on the power play at 2:53 and then shorthanded with 4:24 left in the stanza to put the home team up by four.

He then fed Patrick Gazich for another Rock man advantage marker in the third before securing his fourth point of the night in the final minute as he assisted on Jacob Shankar’s 12th goal of the season to wrap things up.

Romain also dished out a couple of helpers for his side.

Despite the score, Al Rogers was busy in the Timmins net making 47 saves to earn the victory while Owen Johansson faced 34 shots in the loss for Rayside-Balfour.
