Voodoos’ Baker & McDonald to compete in CJHL Prospects Game Jan. 25 in Cornwall

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Canadian Junior Hockey League announced Tuesday that Powassan Voodoos forward Andy Baker and goaltender Nate McDonald have both been named to the Team East roster for the upcoming CJHL Prospects Game, which goes Wednesday, Jan. 25 in Cornwall, Ont.

Both players have been instrumental in helping Powassan reel off 23 consecutive Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League victories in succession as well enter 2017 as the No. 2 ranked club within the entire 132-team CJHL.

The 17-year-old Baker, who hails from Port Carling, Ont., currently leads all NOJHL skaters in goals with 33 in as many games played.

Baker also sits tied for fourth in overall league scoring with 49 points on those 33 tallies and 16 assists.

He tops the NOJHL in game-winning goals with 10 and shares the league-lead in power play markers with 11.

The talented forward has notched at least one goal in eight straight games and has points in 10 consecutive contests.

As for McDonald, the 17-year-old from nearby North Bay, Ont., has been stellar in net in helping Powassan sit in first place in the NOJHL standings with their 30-3-1-0 record.

The Voodoos goaltender leads the league in both goals-against average and save percentage at 2.02 and .928 respectively.

McDonald is also tied for the most wins in the NOJHL with 19 and shares top spot in shutouts with three.

The Powassan stopper has earned the victory in his past 14 appearances.

“This is a tremendous achievement for Andy and Nate, the Powassan Voodoos and the NOJHL,” offered league Commissioner Robert Mazzuca.

“Their selection by NHL Central Scouting to play for Team East at the CJHL Prospects Game is an incredible accomplishment and is yet another indicator of the exposure our league continues to draw from right across the country,” added Mazzuca.

The 2017 CJHL Prospects Game goes at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 25 in Cornwall and will be streamed online at HockeyTV.com.
