Voodoos halt Canadians win streak at 6

CHELMSFORD, Ont. – Powassan Voodoos defenceman Nicky Grose scored his second goal of the game with 3:01 remaining in regulation to help propel his side past the Rayside-Balfour Canadians 4-3 Sunday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League encounter at Chelmsford Arena.

Grose put the Voodoos in flight eight minutes into the contest as he connected on a Powassan power play opportunity.

The Canadians drew level late in the opening session with a man advantage marker of their own supplied by Jayme Forslund with 10 seconds left in the stanza.

Special teams allowed the home side to take the lead midway through the contest as Bradley Chenier scored for the 17th time this season.

The Voodoos countered with the equalizer at 12:50 of the second as Tyler Peters buried his 20th goal of the campaign.

Ryan Erickson’s 20th tally put Rayside-Balfour back in front at 18:11 only to see Powassan’s Aaron Dart knot the affair at 3-3 just 24 seconds later.

The score stayed that way Grose supplied the game-winner in the latter stages of the third to give the visitors the victory.

Jake Staples had two assists to aid the Voodoos cause while Chenier and Otis Goldman had a couple helpers apiece for the Canadians.

Garrett Forrest made 22 saves for Powassan in the triumph as they raised their record to 21-4-0-1.

Jessie Morin faced 37 shots in defeat for Rayside-Balfour, who saw their six-game win streak come to an end, while also slipping to 18-9-0-0 overall.
