Wolfe has 5 points, Mazzocato shutout as Gold Miners blank Eskis

KIRKLAND LAKE – Brandon Wolfe scored three times and added two assists while Tyler Mazzocato turned aside all 12 shots he saw for the shutout as the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners blanked the Iroquois Falls Eskis 6-0 Friday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League preseason play at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.

The host Gold Miners got on the board three minutes into the contest on a Marc-Antoinne Arseneau man advantage effort, which was the lone tally of the opening period.

Kirkland Lake’s Wolfe tacked on two more late in the middle stanza to put his side up by three after 40 minutes.

They then put the contest away in the third with a Brayden Stortz goal early, another by Joel Fortin and one final marker by Wolfe to finish off his impressive night for the Gold Miners.

Arseneau and Stortz both chipped in with a pair of helpers apiece for three-point nights.

Joe Sheppard faced 25 attempts in the loss for Iroquois Falls while Josh Horner stopped all eight pucks he saw in nearly 13 minutes of relief in the third.

The same two sides will meet again Saturday evening as they finish off a home-and-home with a 7:30 p.m. start at Jus Jordan Arena.
