Cochrane tops French River 6-2
NOELVILLE, Ont. – The high-flying Cochrane Crunch got two goals apiece from Seamus Maguire and Dustin Cordeiro to help pace them to a 6-2 victory over the French River Rapids Saturday evening in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at Noelville Arena.
Maguire and Cordeiro staked the visitors to 2-0 first period cushion before the Rapids’ Caleb Rich connected on the power play with 51 seconds remaining in the opening session.
The man advantage allowed French River to tie it early in the second as Tyler King’s effort eluded Crunch starter Kurtis David 77 seconds into the middle frame.
Special teams allowed Cochrane to retake the lead later in the period as Maguire and Hunter Atchison supplied shorthanded tallies while Cordeiro connected on the power play to make it 5-2 after two.
Parker Moskal then capped off the night’s scoring for the Crunch in the final minute of regulation.
Joey Mavrin and Atchison had two assists each in the triumph for Cochrane.
David made 34 saves in earning the win in net for Cochrane as they remained unbeaten early in the season.
Chad Mosley started for French River and suffered the loss stopping 24 of 29 in nearly 47 minutes of work while Alec St. Georges turned aside eight of nine in relief.
