NOJHL announces Gongshow Gear players of the month

SUDBURY – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday its respective Gongshow Gear Inc., player, defenceman, goaltender and rookie of the month for September.

GONGSHOW GEAR PLAYER OF THE MONTH – Hunter Atchison, (F) Cochrane Crunch

In six games in September, the Victoria, B.C. native paced the NOJHL in offensive production amassing 21 points on eight goals and 13 assists.

Two of his tallies were also game-winners.

Atchison currently leads all NOJHL skaters in scoring with 27 points in total with 11 tallies and 16 helpers to his credit for Cochrane.

Honourable Mention: Michael Silveri, (F) Powassan Voodoos; Matt Pinder, (F) Soo Thunderbirds

GONGSHOW GEAR DEFENCEMAN OF THE MONTH – Nicky Grose, Powassan Voodoos

It was a solid first month of the season for the 20-year-old Virginian as he helped the Voodoos in both ends of the ice aiding their efforts in going unbeaten.

In six outings with Powassan in Sept., Grose scored once and set-up six others as his club went 6-0.

So far on the season Grose leads all blueliners on the unbeaten Powassan roster in points with nine, including eight assists.

Honourable Mention: Ryan Mooney, Rayside-Balfour Canadians; Matt Busby, Soo Thunderbirds

GONGSHOW GEAR GOALTENDER OF THE MONTH – Brett Young, Cochrane Crunch

The 20-year-old Young, who hails from Livonia, Mich., started six times for the Crunch last month and posted a 5-1 record.

He also had registered a 2.00 goals-against average along with a solid .944 save percentage and one shutout.

Overall his six victories currently lead all NOJHL netminders.

Honourable Mention: Marc Audet, Kirkland Lake Gold Miners; Mario Cavaliere, Powassan Voodoos

GONGSHOW GEAR ROOKIE OF THE MONTH – Darian Pilon, F, Soo Thunderbirds

Despite just turning 17 last week, the Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. product has impressed in his first month in the league.

Taking to the ice eight times in September, Pilon helped the Thunderbirds go 7-1 while registering two goals and adding five assists along the way.

Entering play this week he sits second in overall scoring on the T-Birds with nine points.

Honourable Mention: Jeran Knorr, (F) Cochrane Crunch; Michael Norris, (F) Timmins Rock
