3 for Theriault as Sudbury stops Blind River

BLIND RIVER – Ryan Theriault tallied three times and set-up another to help pace the Sudbury Nickel Barons past the Blind River Beavers 5-1 Saturday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest at the Blind River Community Centre.

The contest was scoreless until the latter stages of the opening period until Eric Champagne popped in his first of the night during a man advantage at 17:13.

Special teams saw Champagne pot another during a power play 4:25 into the second.

Just over two minutes later Theriault struck shorthanded to put the visitors up by three.

Theriault added another with 93 seconds remaining in the stanza as the Nickel Barons added to their margin.

The Sudbury forward then capped off his hat trick 2:53 into the third to put his side up by five.

Blind River dashed Nickel Barons’ netminder Kevin Labelle’s shutout bid 18 seconds later as Austin Lamont took a feed from Trent Linklater and fired home his sixth of the season to round out the scoring.

Christoper Rossi doled out three assists for the winners while Labelle finished with 33 stops to pick up the decision for Sudbury.

Zachary Mills and Braddock Baalerud both saw time between the pipes in defeat facing 46 pucks in the setback.
