POWASSAN, Ont. – Cameron Lemcke had a goal and collected a pair of assists to help propel the Powassan Voodoos to a 4-1 triumph over the Timmins Rock Wednesday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up held at the Powassan Sportsplex.

Featuring the top two teams in the NOJHL standings, a scoreless opening 12-plus minutes of the contest, saw the Voodoos take flight by striking three times in rapid succession and carry a 3-0 cushion to the first intermission.

Lemcke provided the initial marker at 12:19 as he came around the Timmins net and put a play in front that clipped off the back of the skate of Rock starter Gavin McCarthy and skipped across the goal line.

Recently acquired forward Jacob Dupont then notched his first NOJHL goal a couple of shifts later when he took a Brett Richardson feed in the slot and promptly whipped a shot into the right corner from the high slot.

The home side capped off their offensive outburst moments later with Ben White picking off a play behind the net, then setting up Lemcke in front, who was stopped by McCarthy, but Jackson Buffam was there on the right side to collect his fifth tally of the campaign by lifting the puck over the sprawled goaltender.

Moving to the middle stanza, Powassan had a glorious opportunity to add to their lead about eight minutes in, however an attempt to the open net went wide.

They did however tack on a fourth on the night, while on a late power play, that saw Mike Levin convert with 13 seconds remaining as he drove through the right circle and whistled one over the blocker of McCarthy.

In the third, Timmins got one back off a faceoff win by Christopher Engelbert back to Bode Dunford, who in turn sent it across to his defensive partner Cameron Dutkiewicz, which allowed him to zip a shot from inside the blueline that flew past a crowd in front and eluded Alex Bugeja in the Voodoos’ net at 7:38.

However, that would conclude the night’s scoring as hosts held firm from there to secure the home ice victory.

A busy Bugeja finished with 39 stops to record the win while McCarthy faced 32 attempts in defeat.
