Voodoos’ Trudeau-Paquet; Eagles’ Brandinger; Rapids’ Johnson named Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that forwards Gregory Trudeau-Paquet (Powassan Voodoos) and Joel Brandinger (Soo Eagles) along with goaltender Chase Johnson (French River Rapids) have been named its Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending Nov. 10.

GREGORY TRUDEAUPAQUET, (F) POWASSAN VOODOOS The veteran NOJHL forward continues to play a big role in the success that Powassan has achieved so far during the 2019-20 campaign.

The 20-year-old from Sudbury produced multiple-point affairs for the Voodoos in the time frame, beginning with a pair of assists, then notching the decider in the shootout, in a home win over Hearst Friday.

He then set-up the opening marker before burying the game-winner in overtime as Powassan held off a late comeback bid by Cochrane Sunday to come away victorious at the Sportsplex and extend the Voodoos winning streak to 19 straight.

Trudeau-Paquet currently sits third overall in league offensive production with 35 points in 22 games with a dozen tallies and 23 helpers.

JOEL BRANDINGER, (F) SOO EAGLES Solid play on the ice by the 20-year-old from Grand Rapids, Mich., saw him collect points in all three wins the Eagles posted over the weekend.

Brandinger began by notching the game-winning tally Friday in a home ice decision over Espanola, followed that up by setting up an insurance effort vs. Elliot Lake Saturday then scored yet again and chipped in with a helper in a road triumph over the Express Sunday.

He has played at nearly at point-per-game pace since joining the Michigan Soo side a month ago while the Eagles have gone 5-0-0-1 in contests he has registered at least one point.

CHASE JOHNSON, (G) FRENCH RIVER RAPIDS Getting the starting nod for French River in their lone match-up of the week, the 19-year-old netminder, who hails from Bartlett, Ill., turned in a solid 36-save performance and came within just over seven minutes of posting his first NOJHL shutout as he backstopped the Rapids to a 4-1 victory over Hearst.

Since arriving in French River in mid-October, Johnson has produced a stellar .949 save percentage in helping aid the Rapids fortunes.

In six of his appearances, he has allowed just one goal against on four occasions and only two in the other pair.
