CHELMSFORD, Ont. – Three unanswered tallies in the third period saw the Soo Eagles rally for a 3-2 victory over the Rayside-Balfour Canadians Thursday evening in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at Chelmsford Arena.
The come from behind triumph was the Eagles league-leading sixth of the season, when trailing after two periods of play.
Rayside-Balfour did begin the scoring near the 15-minute mark of the opening frame when Matt Belanger notched his 19th goal of the season, which leads all NOJHL rookies.
Action in the second stanza saw the home side go up by a pair as Benjamin Hatanaka picked up his third of the campaign early on.
In the final session, Sault Ste. Marie began their rally near the midway point of it compliments of Bobby Price, who put the visitors on the board.
Then picking up a power play a couple of shifts later, the Soo drew level on Dominic Skrelja’s equalizer as he collected his 16th marker of the season.
The Eagles then got the game-winner with 3:16 remaining in regulation when George Orfanos provided the difference maker during a two-man advantage.
Shots goal finished up 30-26 in favour of the Soo with Shane Brancato picking up the victory while Cameron Lamour suffered the defeat.
