4-assist night for Elford as Elliot Lake defeats Espanola

ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. – The Elliot Lake Wildcats picked up four assists from David Elford to help them defeat the Espanola Express 6-2 Friday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at Centennial Arena.

Elliot Lake needed just 62 seconds to opening the night’s scoring as Jacob Kelly connected early for the home side.

Up a man later in the first period allowed Espanola to tie things up as Jason Bednarski scored on the power play at 8:55.

It stayed 1-1 until the latter stages of the second stanza when the Wildcats got a man advantage marker from Taylor Woolcott with 1:09 left in the stanza.

Elliot Lake broke it open in the third to secure the win as they outscored the Express 4-1.

William Bucsis made it 3-1 at 2:24 before Riley Smith answered that for the Express six minutes later.

However the Wildcats struck three times in the back half of the frame to finish things off as Curtis Rawn collected a couple and Matthew Tozer added a single to round out the scoring.

Justin Richer made 25 saves to register the victory for Elliot Lake.

Logan Sawka started for Espanola and suffered the loss allowing five on 42 attempts with Mitchell Jacobson stopped 10 of 11 in relief.
