Abitibi evens series with Elliot Lake

ELLIOT LAKE – Ryan Tront tallied twice and doled out a pair of assists to help lead the Abitibi Eskimos to a 6-2 victory over the Elliot Lake Bobcats in game 4 of their Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League quarter-final series Friday evening at Centennial Arena.

With the win Abitibi tied the best-of-seven series 2-2 heading into game 5 Sunday evening at 7:30 p.m. at Jus Jordan Arena in Iroquois Falls. Game 6 will go Monday back at Centennial.

Elliot Lake opened the scoring 7:49 into the contest thanks to Torrin Grange only to see Brady Clouthier level the proceedings just 45 seconds later.

Erik Robichaud put the Eskimos on top with a power play marker late in the period to go up by one after 20 minutes.

The visitors struck three times in a seven-minute span in the middle session go up 5-1 of efforts supplied by Clouthier, Brenden Locke and Tront.

Max Glashauser got one back for the Bobcats during a man advantage opportunity at 16:08 of the period.

Tront finished up the scoring with a power play goal in the third to wrap-up his four-point night.

Ryan Wildman and Brennan Roy each had two assists to help Abitibi offensively in the triumph.

Sylvain Miron made 33 saves to record the road win for the Eskimos to even the series.

Alex Bitsakis started for Elliot Lake and was saddled with the loss allowing five against in 31 and a half minutes of work.

Matt Young turned aside 14 of 15 attempts in relief.

NOJHL postseason play resumes Saturday as the Soo Thunderbirds travel to Blind River to take on the Beavers in game 4 of their best-of-seven quarter-final affair. The Thunderbirds lead the series 2-1 with game time at the Community Centre slated for 7:30 p.m.
