Atchison’s 40th lifts Crunch over Eskis
COCHRANE, Ont. – Hunter Atchison’s Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League-leading 40th goal of the season, which came shorthanded, with 4:37 remaining was the decider as the Cochrane Crunch got past the Iroquois Falls Eskis 6-5 Friday at the Tim Horton Even Centre.
Fresh off a two-game stint earlier in the week at the SIJHL Showcase event that produced a pair of wins, Cochrane grabbed a 3-1 lead after one period of play with Jon Marzec, Evan Akkerman and Aviv Milner scoring for the Crunch while Samuel Vigneux had one for the Eskis.
Zack Anderson made it 4-1 Cochrane midway through the contest before Iroquois Falls rebounded with tallies from David Osborne and Joseph Biers to make it a 4-3 game through 40 minutes.
Kaden Hintz put the Crunch in front 5-3 with 9:23 to go only to see Jacob Erwin connect for his club’s second power play effort of the evening just over three minutes later.
Atchison then struck for the eventual game-winner while his side was down a man before the Eskis’ David Stickney rounded out the scoring with 2:06 to go.
Dustin Cordeiro had a pair of assists for Cochrane in the win with Josh Dejulio and Tanner Bowditch supplying two helpers apiece in defeat for Iroquois Falls.
The Crunch outshot the Eskis 46-31 with Brett Young picking up the win and Joe Sheppard the loss.
