Balanced scoring leads Espanola over French River

ESPANOLA, Ont. – The Espanola Express used a well-balanced attack getting goals from seven players to help them defeat the French River Rapids 7-2 Wednesday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at the Regional Recreation Centre.

Espanola knocked French River off the rails early grabbing a 4-0 lead after one period of play on markers supplied by Cameron Anklewich, Aaron Roschinsky, Aaron Beauchamp on the power play and Jason Bednarski.

The Rapids got one back in the second with the lone tally of the middle frame when Chris Atanas connected at 17:21 of the session.

Keenan Kennedy and Charlie Venedam extended the Express lead to 6-1 in the third before Bret McInall notched his 11th of the season for the visitors at 13:24.

Espanola’s Dominik Lavergne rounded out the scoring 29 seconds later with his third in 2015-16.

Patrick Smith dished out three assists to aid the Express cause while Lavergne, Ian Thompson chipped in with two helpers each.

In all 13 different Espanola skaters picked up points in the victory.

Kevin Labelle stopped 22 of 24 in the Express net to pick up the win.

Alec St-Georges was pelted with 73 shots against in relief for French River.
