Beavers’ Ordoobadi commits to NCAA

BLIND RIVER — Chris Ordoobadi, of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Blind River Beavers has committed to Lawrence University in Appleton, Wis., for the 2015-16 season to attend school and play NCAA hockey for the Vikings.

It was less than a year ago when Ordoobadi was paying his dues in the Eastern Hockey League as a grinding power forward.

Looking for more opportunity to demonstrate his skill that went along with his six-foot-four-inch frame, Ordoobadi took a chance on the NOJHL not knowing much about the league.

Given opportunity to do more than grind and play with power, Ordoobadi has demonstrated his scoring and play making ability in Elliot Lake and later Blind River.

After a two-day visit to the Lawrence University campus last week, Ordoobadi came away impressed.

“The campus was great,” offered Ordoobadi.

“I got to spend time with the coaches, and spend the night with one of the graduating seniors as well as watch practices and workouts,” added Ordoobadi.

“They made me feel comfortable with the hockey, but more important, they showed me what a quality education I would receive at Lawrence.”

The scholar student athlete, goes to Lawrence University next year with the opportunity to jump right into an impact player role.

He’ll be joining a Vikings squad that competes out of the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association.
