Big 3rd period sends Blind River past Elliot Lake

ELLIOT LAKE – The Blind River Beavers rallied from a two-goal third period deficit by striking for four unanswered markers late to defeat the Elliot Lake Wildcats 4-2 in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play Friday at Centennial Arena.

It was a solid start for Elliot Lake as they skated out to a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes on a pair of Evan Spencer tallies.

Both teams would then trade quality chances in a scoreless middle stanza thanks to the efforts of Wildcats starter Allan Menary as well as Blind River goaltender Michael Corson.

Entering the final frame the Beavers commenced their comeback with11:47 left in regulation on C.J. Brock’s first NOJHL goal.

The visitors then tied it two shifts later compliments of Caleb Serre’s 18th of the season.

Blind River kept coming and picked up the game-winner at 15:52 off the stick of Max Khull.

Finishing off the rally, Serre added some insurance less than two minutes later to complete the comeback.

Owen Robinson had two assists in the triumph for the Beavers while Brett Crook had a couple of helpers for Elliot Lake.

Corson finished with 48 stops, including 22 alone in the third period, to post the win for Blind River with Menary seeing 46 attempts in defeat for the Wildcats.
