Blackhawks blast Beavers

MATTAWA – C.J. Nicholson and Zach Nadeau both scored twice to help lead the Mattawa Blackhawks to a 7-2 triumph over the Blind River Beavers Saturday in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at Mike Rodden Arena.

The first period’s lone tally came early in the frame courtesy of a Nadeau unassisted effort at 2:11.

Blind River pulled even in the second on Sine Chadi’s initial tally in his debut in a Beavers’ uniform.

After Alex Dajia put Mattawa back in front at 12:16, the visitors pulled even once again just 19 seconds later with Austin Lamont levelling the proceedings.

Less than a minute later the Blackhawks went in front for good however when Andy Williams beat Blind River starter Nick Kazmierczak.

Nadeau’s second of the night added to his club’s lead as they went by two entering the final frame.

In the third, the home side put the game away with three more markers to round out the scoring on a pair of tallies by Nicholson and one by Brett Ouderkirk.

Jimmy Philbin chipped in with three assists for the Hawks.

Shots on goal in the contest were 40-36 in favour of Mattawa with Joe Sheppard picking up the win and Kazmierczak the loss.
