Blind River holds on to win 5th straight and end Timmin’s 4-game run

BLIND RIVER, Ont. – The Blind River Beavers withstood a third period comeback bid by the Timmins Rock as they held on for a 7-6 triumph Friday night in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at the Blind River Community Centre.

With the result, Blind River wins their fifth game in succession as they improved to 12-9-0-0 while Timmins saw a four-game victory run end as they fell to 15-5-0-0.

Blind River came out strong grabbing a 4-1 lead after one period of play.

Yianni Liarakos and Zak Lambrecht staked the hosts to an early two-tally cushion before Grant McClellan got one back for Timmins.

However, the Beavers struck twice late in the frame on efforts from Mark Bastianello and Steven Khull to go up by three entering the second.

In the middle session each side would connect once with Dylan McMahon connecting for Blind River and Alexandre Brisson for the Rock.

Cole Gilligan brought the visitors closer 15 second into the final frame only to see Max Khull and Cole Peck run the Beavers’ lead to 7-3 with 16 minutes to play.

Battling back, Timmins tallied three times in just over a six-minute span to make things interesting as Jordan Rendle, Cory Sprague and Wayne Mathieu all found the back of the net.

The hosts would hold on however the final 5:55 to secure the win.

Lambrecht also added three assists to go with his goal for a four-point night.

Aiden Doak faced 52 shots to pick up the win for Blind River.

Matthew Nixon started for Timmins and made 34 saves while Rock affiliate netminder Dante Garito made three stops in nearly nine minutes of relief.
