Blind River matches franchise single-season win mark with triumph over French River

BLIND RIVER, Ont. – The Blind River Beavers got a natural hat trick from Yianni Liarakos to break open a close game as they went on to defeat the French River Rapids 9-2 Friday evening in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at the Blind River Community Centre.

The win for Blind River was their 29th of the campaign, which matches a franchise record for most victories in a season by the club.

French River did get an early jump in the contest notching the night’s opening goal 11:52 in on a Will Michaud effort.

The Beavers responded with markers from Ryder Prue and Rockford Copiskey later in the frame to go up 2-1 after one.

The Rapids tied it early into the middle session on a Patrick Musico power play tally, but Blind River countered by striking three times before the period was complete on the eventual game-winner from Jordan Kreller and a pair from Liarakos.

Liarakos then finished off his three-goal night 4:53 into the third.

The home side kept it going and added another 40 seconds after that compliments of Tristen Bernard’s eighth overall.

Mark Khull and Brock Brown tacked on singles from there to finish off the team-matching triumph.

Anthony Pullicino chipped in with three assists to aid the Beavers cause while Caleb Serre, Mark Bastianello and Max Khull dished out two helpers each.

Myles Hektor made 23 saves to pick up the win for Blind River.

Evan Peltier started for French River and suffered the loss allowing seven against on 42 shots while Simon Wood handled 13 of 15 in 14 and a half minutes of relief.
