Bobcats bite Gold Miners

ELLIOT LAKE – Henry Berger tallied twice and dished out an assist to help lead the Elliot Lake Bobcats past the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners 4-1 Friday evening in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at Centennial Arena.

The hometown Bobcats stormed out to an early 3-0 lead with Berger netting the game’s first two goals while Brad Holman notching the other before the 12-minute mark of the contest spelling an early end to Gold Miners’ goaltender Chris Komma’s night in favour of Marc Audet.

Kirkland Lake’s Royce King put a late dent in the margin scoring at 19:34 of the opening stanza.

Following a scoreless middle stanza the Bobcats’ Cody Slaght iced it with an empty netter in the game’s waning moments.

Steve Gaul picked up a pair of assists to help out offensively in the triumph.

Cory Simic turned in a 30-save performance to pick up the victory for Elliot Lake who raised their record to 6-15-0-1.

Komma suffered the loss for Kirkland Lake facing 10 shots while Audet turned in a spotless performance turning aside all 30 attempts he saw in relief as the club fell to 13-9-1-1.

NOJHL action resumes Saturday with the Gold Miners visiting Blind Rivers while Abitibi takes on Sudbury in a neutral site affair at the Tim Horton Events Centre in Cochrane. Both match-ups feature a 7:30 p.m. face-off.
