Bobcats bounce Nickel Barons in NOJHL preseason play

SUDBURY – Aviv Milner tallied three times and set-up another to help the Elliot Lake Bobcats bounce the Sudbury Nickel Barons 7-1 in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League preseason play Monday evening at McClelland Arena in Copper Cliff.

After Milner potted the lone goal in the opening session, Elliot Lake exploded for five more markers in the middle frame, including two more by Milner to complete his hat-trick to go up 6-0 after 40 minutes.

Andrew Plyshaj tallied twice and added an assist to aid the offensive cause for the Bobcats while Austin Bissonette and Dustin Cordeiro supplied singles. Brett Wagner also chipped in with three helpers.

Josh Moore had the lone Sudbury goal coming in the third to dash Etienne Roy’s shutout bid with 7:34 to go.

Roy finished stopping all but one of the 46 shots he faced to register the victory while MacKenzie Savard suffered the setback ending up with 22 stops on the night for the Nickel Barons. Andrew Lefebrve made seven saves in relief during the second period.

Exhibition action continues Friday back in Elliot Lake with the three-day Cottage Cup tournament featuring the host Bobcats along with the Blind River Beavers, North Bay Trappers and Soo Thunderbirds.
